Product overview

As the Senior UI/UX Designer for Boat Helper, my mission was to design a mobile platform that connects Boat Owners with skilled Boat Craftsmen, enabling easy boat management, task organization, real-time communication, and trusted service delivery.

We took inspiration from Airbnb’s success in building trust, simplicity, and community — and translated those principles into a seamless marine-focused experience.

Key Objectives

  • Enable fast, secure, and clear communication.

  • Build trust through profile transparency and reviews.

  • Deliver intuitive navigation and task management.

  • Provide data insights that support smarter decisions.

Navigation Philosophy

We implemented a bottom navigation bar with 5 core sections:
Home, Tasks, Messages, Stats, Profile
This keeps users oriented and their actions predictable, just like Airbnb.

Home Screen Highlights

The Home screen provides a personalized experience:

  • Visual boat cards with specs.

  • Task tabs sorted by status (Open, Agreement Made, In Progress, Done).

  • Real-time market activity stats (task volume & pricing trends).

  • Quick access to Browse Tasks, Find Craftsmen, and Boat Owner profiles.

Creating a New Task

We designed the Create Task flow with clear logic:

  • Required fields like title, description, and category.

  • Map-based location selection.

  • Image upload for better task clarity.

  • Auto status tracking starting with "Open".

Messaging & Communication

Boat Helper features real-time messaging:

  • Familiar bubble layout with timestamps and read receipts.

  • One-on-one chats between BoatOwners and Craftsmen who submitted offers.

  • Unlocks full contact details only after an agreement, maintaining platform integrity.

Profile Discovery & Trust

Users can explore:

  • Other BoatOwners: name, picture, boats owned, task history, and reviews.

  • Task Details: job specs, attached media, interested craftsmen.

  • Craftsman Profiles: reviews, skillset, completed work, and contact info (post-agreement).

Reviews that Matter

BoatOwners can leave:

  • A 1–5 star rating.

  • A public written review.

  • And see feedback from others, reinforcing trust and service quality.

This loop of transparency builds confidence and long-term platform value.

Smart Market Insights

From the Stats section, users can:

  • View active task volume in real time.

  • Track average pricing trends by category, monthly and yearly.

Conclusion

Boat Helper delivers a specialized experience for boat maintenance with the clarity, simplicity, and trust of Airbnb, but designed specifically for marine needs. From task creation to review, every step is intuitive and built to empower both Boat Owners and Boat Craftsmen alike.
